LaSirenn is a figure in Haitian Vodou, a religion that blends West African spiritual beliefs with Catholicism. She is often depicted as a mermaid or a beautiful woman with a fish tail, and is associated with the sea and its mysteries.
LaSirenn is closely related to the figure of Mami Wata, which is mostly present in West African cultures and the figure of the Siren. In mythology, sirens were often portrayed as dangerous, seductive creatures who lured men to their deaths with their beautiful voices and enchanting music. The siren can be read as a critique of patriarchal society, which often seeks to silence marginalized people and their voices, challenging the status quo and offering alternative visions of empowerment.
